Can My PC Run Windows 11? A Guide To Upgrading From Windows 10

Can My PC Run Windows 11? A Guide To Upgrading From Windows 10
Posted: 9th September 2025

As Windows 10 reaches end-of-life in October, you might be wondering what your next move should be. Can your current PC handle Windows 11? Will you need to upgrade your device? We’re hearing questions like this from many of our clients, so let’s break it down and look at your options.

Why upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11?

Microsoft has confirmed that support for Windows 10 is ending very soon. That means no more security updates, patches, or fixes. While your computer won’t suddenly stop working, it will become more vulnerable to cyber threats. Upgrading to Windows 11 ensures your device stays protected, secure, and efficient.

What are the system requirements for        Windows 11?

Of course, the preferred course of action would be a straight update to Windows 11. To do this, these are the minimum requirements your device needs:

Processor: 1 GHz or faster, with 2 or more cores (and it must be on Microsoft’s approved list)

RAM: At least 4 GB

Storage: 64 GB or more

System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable

TPM (Trusted Platform Module): Version 2.0

Graphics Card: DirectX 12 compatible

Display: At least 9” with HD resolution (720p)

If this is all sounding a little technical, don’t worry. We’ll show you a simple way to check if your PC ticks these boxes, and the good news is, most modern PCs from the last few years already meet these requirements.

How to check if your PC can run Windows 11

Microsoft has a free tool called the PC Health Check app. It’s quick to download and tells you instantly if your computer can run Windows 11. If it says you’re good to go, upgrading is simple.

If not, don’t panic. There are still options..

What if my PC can’t run Windows 11?

If your PC is older than a few years, it may not meet the requirements. In that case, you have two main choices:

1. Upgrade your hardware - sometimes adding RAM or switching to a supported processor can make your PC Windows 11-ready.

2. Consider a new PC - if your machine is older than 5-7 years, this might be a financially smarter move. A new computer will not only run Windows 11 but also perform faster overall.

Benefits of upgrading to Windows 11

Upgrading to Windows 11 is an essential move for your cyber security, but it can bring many more benefits too.

You’ll get advanced protections, improved productivity through virtual desktops and the new Snap Layouts view, and better collaboration with Microsoft Teams integration.

What’s more, Windows 11 is built to support emerging AI and cloud technologies, helping to future-proof your IT infrastructure for emerging new tech. Already integrated AI tools like Copilot assistant can save you time and money by helping users to get more done faster by drafting emails, summarising documents, and organising files.

Jupiter IT - we’re more than IT support

Upgrading to Windows 11 isn’t just about getting the latest features; it’s about protecting your business from cyber threats after Windows 10 support ends.

At Jupiter, we have been notifying our clients of this incoming change since 2024, taking the time to audit their devices and compile a list of those we recommend be upgraded, and those we recommend be replaced to avoid performance issues.

TIP: Even if your PC meets the minimum requirements, we recommend you run it past your IT provider. An upgrade may be possible, but it could be at the cost of performance issues if you just scrape in.

If you need help deciding your next move, just get in touch. Because at Jupiter IT, we don’t just support your IT; we help you use it to its full potential to help grow your business.
