Tech Trends For SMEs In 2025

2025 is set to be the year for SMEs to harness tech trends to modernise their technology frameworks in order to grow their business.

From outsourcing to upgrading, it seems this is the year for SMEs to invest more in their IT as it’s increasingly recognised as an asset and less as a mere necessity.

What are the biggest tech trends for SMEs in 2025

Outsourcing IT services

Around half of SMEs acknowledge challenges when it comes to sourcing candidates for in-house roles. Many don’t have the desired qualifications and those who do are more drawn to roles within IT support companies where there could be opportunities for growth and development.

To overcome this hurdle, it seems many more SMEs are exploring a partnership with external IT support companies this year. Whilst outsourcing may appear to be an expensive option, it is often far more cost-effective.

With a reliable IT provider, you have access to a team of highly qualified engineers and IT specialists at the same cost, if not less, than having one employed individual of the same calibre. Not to mention, absences won’t affect your business. You also benefit from cost-savings relating to training and development; IT moves at a rapid pace making it easy for an in-house engineer to become stagnant if you don’t provide opportunity for appropriate training.

Increased cyber security

As AI continues to evolve, the technology is being used not only to enhance cyber security but also to increase the sophistication of cyber attacks.

In recent years, SMEs have become more aware that businesses of all sizes are at risk when it comes to cyber crime and that smaller businesses are often viewed as easy pickings.

43% of cyber attacks are aimed at SMEs and over half of victims never financially recover.

The advice many SMEs are heeding in 2025 is to fight fire with fire. AI-powered cyber security platforms are growing in popularity as a way of spotting anomalies faster and reducing response times.

SMEs should also be working on a means of staying abreast of the latest developments in cyber crime. Whether this be through dedicating time to attending expert webinars and training or partnering with a cyber security specialist.

Upgrading to Windows 11

Despite its successor being launched in 2021, over 60% of users are still operating Windows 10. This could be due to hardware requirements but the new interface could also play a part in the avoidance of some to migrate.

That being said, this year the decision will be taken out of users’ hands as Microsoft will cease support for Windows 10 come October 2025.

Without this support, the operating system will not receive patch management updates essential to performance and security, leaving users with gaping vulnerabilities.

If you’re a Jupiter IT client, we can help with all aspects of migration to new software and operating systems, including staff training.
