How To Use Tech To Boost Employee Wellbeing
Posted: 15th May 2025

In today’s workplace, employee wellbeing is becoming a top priority. Companies recognise that happy, healthy employees perform better and stay longer.

With around 44% of people in the UK working hybrid or remotely, businesses need more flexible tools to support employee wellbeing, and tech is a smart and effective way to do it.

How tech can help monitor employee wellbeing

Activity analytics tools

A drop in work activity and communication patterns can be a sign of an employee struggling with their wellbeing. Fewer emails or participation in chats might suggest stress or fatigue.

The Microsoft 365 admin centre allows you to track activity within Microsoft Teams and Outlook. Within the ‘Reports’ feature, you can look for signs of communication declining and potentially spot mood shifts, allowing you to support employees at the first signs of mental wellbeing struggles.

Employee wellbeing surveys

Regular check-ins help keep a pulse on your remote employee’s wellbeing. Anonymous surveys are a great way to get a clear insight into morale. Microsoft Teams offers two simple ways to do this using Microsoft Forms or the tool’s polling feature.

We recommend combining the two into a wellbeing process for your employees. By submitting periodic polls, you can get quick rankings on how people feel and how they are managing their workload. Forms allows you to ask more open questions and give employees more freedom to provide detailed feedback. This works great as a simple addition to annual reviews and, being anonymous, can be a real eye opener.

Of course, with all these methods of using tech to monitor employee wellbeing, privacy is of the utmost importance. Consent and balance are crucial to supporting your employees without being invasive.

How tech can help support employee wellbeing

Digital wellness platforms

Whilst digital wellness and meditation tools are available to anyone, services like Headspace offer business subscriptions. By offering a wellness platform to employees and making it easy and free to access, you can help them practice zen and increase their productivity and motivation.

Communication tools

Once again, Microsoft Teams is a great tool for keeping remote teams connected and preventing feelings of isolation. Not only can you drop employees instant messages and even get face-to-face from home with video calling, but you can also set wellness reminders.

With an add-in like Remind, you can set reminders in a chat or channel. Prompt your employees to ‘take 10 and stretch’, or on a bright day, suggest ‘why not eat lunch in the sun today’. As well as a gentle nudge to care for their wellbeing, this can help those sitting in home offices feel less alone.

Cloud solutions

Cloud services are not only great for cutting costs and beefing up your cyber security, they’re also a great tool for managing work/life balance for your employees.

Cloud-based project management tools like Planner enable employees to manage their own tasks and track time to reduce the risk of burnout.
